Glenbeigh expands UAE offering with Document Restoration Services

(15 Sep 2014)

Glenbeigh Records Management (GRM), Ireland’s foremost records management company, has introduced document restoration as part of its UAE operations at Dubai World Central. Restoration is implemented when documents suffer water damage in the event of a fire or flood, and can be critical to salvaging important legal, commercial and otherwise valuable paperwork.

Declan Brady, Managing Director, Glenbeigh Records Management said, ‘’in the event of a fire or flood, water damaged documents can have a devastating effect on any business. Often they are simply discarded or held onto in a poor condition, which can in turn contaminate new materials. We use state of the art technology to clean and restore them to a usable condition, saving irreplaceable materials and records. The service is something we have seen high demand for in Europe and we believe businesses in the UAE will also welcome the technology as a way of minimising the catastrophe when the worst happens.’’

The first step of the restoration process is to ensure that the documents are removed as soon as possible from the scene in such a way that no further degradation occurs. Contents can sometimes be dried onsite or they are placed in a freeze store on arrival at Glenbeigh’s storage premises to halt the progression of damage. Pressurised vacuum driers are then applied and once stabilised the required restoration work can take place.

According to a 2009 study in the United States, over 50% of businesses had experienced an unforeseen interruption that compromised their data over the previous two years, and the vast majority (81%) of these interruptions caused the business to be closed for at least a day. In the case of suffering a fire, 44% of enterprises fail to reopen. The majority of businesses worldwide face significant losses in both time and money due to poor data management - research shows that only around a third of companies have a strategy in place to protect against data loss - and standards in the UAE are believed to be behind Europe and the US.

Glenbeigh established operations in the UAE in November 2013 with a Dhs 25 million, 100,000 sq ft, purpose-built facility in DWC offering state-of-the-art storage solutions and advanced security systems guaranteed to protect corporate information assets.
